Flaxseed gel and…flaking?

I was over at the curlynikki forums on one of the flaxseed gel threads. I’ve heard that some people have trouble using flaxseed gel because of flaking.  Personally, I’ve never had a problem with flaking.  I was looking for confirmation.  Namely, if anyone noticed that flaxseed gel doesn’t flake when used with oil(s) or mixed with oil.

Like I said, I’ve never had a problem with flaxseed gel flaking on my hair.  But then again, I’ve never used bare flaxseed gel on my hair without first using a DIY leave in condish or putting other oils on my hair first.  And I’ve never used flaxseed gel without first washing it, so buildup is never an issue.

I use the basic recipe:

2 cups water
3 TBSP flaxseeds (organic, brown)
Let it boil just until water starts to thicken

(for a thicker gel, use 4 TBSP (1/4 cup) flaxseeds and let it boil longer)

When I want to get fancy, I use:
1 TBSP Hibiscus and 1TBSP Burdock root
3 cups water

I make the tea and use that tea as the base. Strain it then add 3 TBSP of flaxseeds. Let it boil until the water gets thicker.

Have you noticed that flaxseed gel resists flaking if used/created with an oil? Or does it flake if you use too much no matter what?
