Mediocre rinse-out conditioner, but a very good leave-in conditioner
SMELL
TRESemme naturals has a nice, clean scent that is not perfume-y or too strong. It just smells nice and the hair smells nice after using it. If you’re one of those people who absolutely hates all scents — even faint ones — you may want to stay away from this one.
HOW IT WORKED
It worked very well as a leave in, but it was ‘BLAH’ as a rinse out. I had been testing TRESemme Naturals before my recent Suave kick to see what the hubbub was about.
I was late to the game, though, on TRESemme Naturals. I decided to hunt down the OLD formula after giving in to all the hype in the natural community about it. And I seriously went on a small hunt for it.
I was looking for the ‘Alberto Culver’ formulation before they were bought out by Uniliver because I heard the new formula was reeking all kinds of havoc amongst longtime natural-haired TRESemme Naturals fans.
Finally found it, tried it and…. MEH. I initially used it like I would any other rinse-out conditioner. Sure, my hair was soft while it was on, but when I rinsed it off… MEH. LOL!
I felt like I had fallen for internet hype. Seriously. I didn’t really care all that much for it as a rinse off. But then I remembered it’s a very versatile conditioner because of the ingredients.
I decided to try it as a leave-in and… it works very well. I was more impressed than I thought I would be. My hair was soft for a number of days and it kept my twists from tangling if I decided to leave them in for a day or 2 before unraveling them.
ON DRY HAIR
I don’t like it all that much on dry hair. I mean, its not terrible, but I just wouldn’t use it again on dry hair. Its kinda a thick-ish conditioner. Its not a heavy cream or anything, but it is substantial. I like to spritz hair with water or some tea mix before using it.
ON WET HAIR
Great on wet hair. It softens and conditions nicely when applied as a leave-in after a wash or cowash.
I apply it before anything else. I don’t do the ‘LOC’ method because I always put anything cream based (anything with water in it) on my hair BEFORE I put any oil on the hair itself.
I usually apply shea butter (or one of my DIY hair creams) to the scalp of my wet hair. Then I use this as a leave-in. Then I go from there. 🙂
SUMMARY
# Great when used as a leave-in conditioner.
# Totally ‘BLAH’ when used as directed (as a rinse-out conditioner)
# Nice, clean scent
# Difficult to find the old formula
