Another way to thicken a BTMS-50 Conditioner

Another way to thicken a BTMS-50 Conditioner - curlytea.com

Hey guys! Let’s talk about a quick cascading effect that will allow you to thicken your conditioners and stabilize the emulsions made with BTMS-50.

As you already know, BTMS-50 contains about 50% conditioning agent. That means it may not thicken quite as nicely as BTMS-25 at the same percentage.

Here’s the INCI breakdown:

BTMS-50: Behentrimonium Methosulfate (and) Cetyl Alcohol (and) Butylene Glycol

BTMS-25: Cetearyl Alcohol (and) Behentrimonium Methosulfate

The first ingredient in BTMS-25 is the thickener cetearyl alcohol. The first ingredient in BTMS-50 is the conditioning agent.

Many DIYers simply add cetyl alcohol to help bulk up the cream. But if you use too much cetyl, the cream may get starchy, draggy or feel terrible during application.

You can prevent that by using a cascade of ingredients that thicken and stabilize the cream. If you’re logged in, keep reading for more information.
