I want to make a gel
From what I can gather, flaxseed gel is the best natural alternative to commercial gels. There are other gels like the ones made from gelatin, but there's something about it being protein heavy or something.
Guar gum gel will leave a ton of flakes in the hair. I'm not sure about Xanthan gum because Xanthan tends to turn too slimy/stringy ( which is great for slip by not so much for "gel" consistency).
Until I find some more information, I think your best bet for natural gel will be the flaxseed gel.
Try to spruce it up by adding an herb or tea into your water while boiling. Here's a list of great hair loving herbs I can think of:
- Fenugreek seed
- Nettle leaf
- Marshmallow Root
- Slippery Elm
- Irish Moss (smelly,so be prepared to hide the scent)
In addition, you can make a full out conditioner using one of the DIY recipes here and combining it with flaxseed gel to make a conditioning styler.
Either way, happy DIYing! ;D
I posted a new gel recipe! Check it out
